Understanding Collaboration Between the Arts and Science

July 2017July 2021
ARC Future Fellowship

This project undertakes the first cultural history of the experiment. The arts and sciences must work together to address the complex challenges of contemporary life, and this project will examine in detail how that can be done. Experimentation is common to the arts and sciences, and thinking about the long history of experimental practices in both fields can help build a bridge between them. This project will examine in detail how they have collaborated in the past, and where they continue to do so in the present. It will result in a major new study and new guidelines for policy, while raising public awareness about the importance of the arts to knowledge-making practices.
