Please note that IASH will not be taking on scholars in the 2020-2021 Summer Research Program.
During the summer break of 2019/2020 (25 November 2019 – 14 February 2020) the Institute for Advanced Studies in the Humanities (IASH) will offer four, ten-week Summer Scholarships to students who have completed at least two years of study in Arts and are planning to do honours or a research higher degree. The scholarships are for research work under the supervision of a member of the Institute.
Key Features:
- A weekly stipend of $360
- You will be supervised by well-established researchers
- You will have access to facilities and materials that may not be readily available elsewhere.
The Project:
We encourage applicants to develop their own research project, aligned with the expertise of potential supervisors at IASH. Potential research areas include:
- History of science and medicine
- History of political or religious thought
- Theory and philosophy of history
- Cultural Studies
- Critical Theory, including gender studies, queer theory and critical theories of the body
Applicants are asked to submit a 1-2 page research proposal as part of their application.
Expected Outcomes:
The main goal of this scholarship is to help students design, execute, and complete a research project, such as a thesis chapter or article, or a prospectus for a larger project.
Suitable for:
This project is open to applications from students with a broad background in the humanities, e.g. history, philosophy, literary studies, religious studies, or cultural studies. We are particularly interested in third-year or honours students, with plans to do further research in the humanities, but second-year students are also welcome to apply.
