During the summer break of 2016/2017 (1 December 2016 – 31 January 2017) the Institute for Advanced Studies in the Humanities (IASH) will offer two, eight week Summer Scholarships to students who have completed three years of study in Arts, and are planning to do honours or a research higher degree. The scholarships are for research work under the supervision of a member or affiliate of the Institute.
A weekly stipend of $300
You will be supervised by well-established researchers
You will have access to facilities and materials that may not be readily available elsewhere.
Non UQ enrolled students (international and domestic) who are not based in Brisbane or who do not reside within 100km of the Centre may apply for a one-off payment of $1000 per student to subsidise travel and accommodation expenses.
We encourage applicants to develop their own research project, aligned with the expertise of potential supervisors at IASH. Potential research areas include:
History of science, medicine, and sexuality
History of political or religious thought
Theory and philosophy of history
British/American literary studies
Asian Media studies
Critical Theory, including gender studies, queer theory and critical theories of the body
The main goal of this scholarship is to help students design, execute, and complete a research project, such as a thesis chapter or article, or a prospectus for a larger project.
This project is open to applications from students with a broad background in the humanities, e.g history, philosophy, literary studies, religious studies, media studies or cultural studies. We are particularly interested in 4th year or honours students, with plans to do further research in the humanities.
Please contact Dr Karin Sellberg (email@example.com) to discuss your potential research project. Dr Sellberg will then direct you to a suitable supervisor within IASH who will work with you to develop a project proposal/application.
Closing date for applications: 5pm, Wednesday August 31, 2016
