InASA 2018 Postgraduate Bursary
We are pleased to launch the InASA Postgraduate Bursary Scheme, to assist higher degree by research students to attend InASA 2018 at the University of Queensland.
InASA Postgraduate (HDR) Conference Travel Bursary
The International Australian Studies Association (InASA) awards the following bursary to HDR candidates to assist attendance at InASA bi-annual conferences.
Applications for the bursaries will be coincident with the release of the call for papers for each conference.
Funding
- The bursary, valued at up to $700 per applicant, provides financial assistance to conference participants.
- The bursary is to be used to cover travel and accommodation.
- Conference registration fees will be waived for bursary recipients.
- Bursary recipients will receive one year’s membership to InASA which includes a 12 month subscription to the Journal of Australian Studies.
Eligibility
- This scheme is open to Higher Degree by Research candidates (domestic and international).
- Interested applicants who have already submitted abstracts to the conference and/or paid their registration can still apply. If successful the registration fee will be refunded.
- Preference may be given to candidates in their final year of candidature.
- Applications for papers co-authored by an HDR candidate and their supervisor will not be considered.
Terms and conditions
Up to six bursaries are available per bi-annual InASA conference. It is a competitive application, and a sub-committee of the InASA executive will assess the applications.
The bursaries are competitive. Successful applicants are required to:
- Attend and present a paper to the conference.
- The Journal of Australian Studies (JAS) has first consideration of an article based on the conference paper, based on the following process:
- Submission of a draft article based on the conference paper to an InASA appointed mentor by the date of the 1st day of the conference.
- Meet with the allocated mentor during the conference at a mutually convenient time.
- Submit a revised article to JAS endorsed by the mentor by a date no more than 3 months after the conclusion of the conference. (Publication is not assured: the article will proceed through the standard refereeing process).
- Advise InASA when and if the article is published.
The bursary will not be paid in advance, but upon the attending the conference via EFT.
Applications
Applicants should complete the application form and send it as an email attachment to the same address used for submission of the conference abstracts, using the subject line Bursary Application. If the abstract is accepted for the conference it will then be forwarded to the InASA subcommittee for consideration of the bursary application.
The closing date for applications is 6 months prior to the conference start date. Late applications will generally not be accepted.
All applications for the bursary will be acknowledged by email, and all applicants will be notified of the outcome of their application by email. The decision of the InASA will be final and no correspondence will be entered into or feedback given.
