Title: Hoarding Memory: The Algerian War in Literature, Art and History

Respondent: Giang Nguyen

Abstract: Through analysis of fiction, autobiography, art, and history that extensively use collecting, layering, and repetition to address painful war memories, this paper shows trauma can be hidden within its own representation. These traumatic memories of the Algerian War, which have accumulated since 1962 and through France’s long period of wilful forgetting, might finally now be appeased with the opening of the French archives in 2021.
