Prof. Graeme Turner awarded Officer of the Order of Australia

Prof. Graeme TurnerIASH congratulates Emeritus Professor Graeme Turner who has been made an Officer of the Order of Australia in the Queen's Birthday Honours List. He received the award for his distinguished service to higher education through pioneering work in the field of Cultural Studies and the Humanities.

Professor Turner is recognised as one of the leading figures in Cultural Studies and Media Studies both in Australia and internationally. He was the founding Director of the Centre for Critical and Cultural Studies at the University of Queensland, Convenor of the ARC-Funded Cultural Research Network, and was awarded a prestigious ARC Federation Fellowship.

Professor Turner has been a tireless advocate for the Humanities through his leadership within the University, as President of the Australian Academy of the Humanities (2004-2006), in his service on the Australian Research Council, and as a Humanities representative on the Prime Minister's Science, Engineering and Innovation Council. Of no less value has been his generous mentorship and the capacity building that he has exercised throughout his career.
