IASH is delighted to welcome Dr Mike Zuber who started with us today as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow.
Mike comes to us from the University of Oxford where he was doing post-doctoral research funded by an academic mobility fellowship from the Swiss National Foundation. He obtained his doctorate from the University of Amsterdam in 2017.
Mike works in the field of early modern intellectual history, particularly the history of science and religious history, and is working on book based on his PhD dissertation. His thesis, Spiritual Alchemy from the Age of Jacob Boehme to Mary Anne Atwood, 1600-1900, used manuscript evidence to show that the concept of ‘spiritual alchemy’ existed much earlier than previously assumed and was broader than just a scientific phenomenon. Flowing on from this research, he will continue working on the papers of seventeenth-century alchemist and heretic, Peter Moritz.
