August 4 will see the commencement of a new research institute devoted to humanities research. Supported by strategic funding from the UQ Senior Executive and the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, the new institute will initially encompass the existing research programmes of CHED and CCCS, with an additional programme devoted to Science Communication. The UQ node of the ARC Centre of Excellence in History of Emotions will also be linked to the new Institute. The current CHED director, Peter Harrison, will assume directorship of the Institute, and academic staff of the existing research centres will transition into the Institute. Two new research-focused appointments in Cultural Studies, initially tenurable in the Institute will be advertised shortly. The Institute for Advanced Studies in the Humanities (IASH) webpage, currently under development, will provide further information about its mission, personnel, and activities.
